Chen Yin, a teacher works in Jianping High School, whose exhibition of calligraphy and paintings is being held in Duo Yun Xuan Gallery located in Nanjing Road East recently. Her wonderful works such as elegant chrysanthemum, snoopy panda, and chaste bamboo are on display. Some Shanghai critics say that Chen Ying is actually an exotic talent in the artistic scene.
Historically, a monk in Shaolin Temple, who was in change of hygiene, tremendously admired Chinese Wushu. The monk later enjoyed a high reputation, for he was really a humble master with Wushu stunts, although he only seemed to be an average monk to sweep the floor. Chen Ying is similar to the monk in competence. She is an average librarian, but shows much love to traditional culture and has made remarkable progress so far.
Fifteen years ago, Chen Ying was transferred from Fujian Province to Shanghai. She initially worked as a librarian in Jian Ping High School. Four years ago, at the age of fifty, Chen Ying began to learn painting, and showed special interest in painting plum, orchid, bamboo, and chrysanthemum. Since then she has always been engaged in calligraphy and paintings.
Feng Enhong the former principal of Jianping High School says that Chen Ying’s achievements in the art astonished him twice. Feng Enhong, who knows much about the Chinese calligraphy and paintings, was attracted by Chen Ying’s works Autumn Chrysanthemum for the first time. What he never expected is that Chen Ying’s works has been in publication publically, and her exhibition of calligraphy and paintings is being conducted in Duo Yun Xun, a most famous gallery in Shanghai, which reveals a cultural atmosphere in Shanghai that artists in different fields keep open-minded about different opinions. Bright, open, tolerant are the inner characteristics of Shanghai artists.
Ying Xinhua, vice general manager of Duo Yun Xuan says, Chen Ying’s greatest contribution to our society lies in that fact that her unusual successful experience will become average people’s motivation to seek opportunities to succeed.
“In China, a person’s self-cultivation has always been given priority since ancient times. Initially, learning Chinese calligraphy and painting reflects a concept of education that a person’s inner accomplishment should be achieved through art, which no doubt trains a person’s noble character and elegant behavior. In a current frivolous society, this inner accomplishment is truly needed. Chen Ying’s experience demonstrates that everyone has a potential competence to succeed, and should never be too old to learn.” Ying Xinhua says.
